Thabat (ثابت) or Al Istiqooma (الاستقامة) : Simply means to stand firm, performing rightly, permitting no deviation.
THE COMPANIONS DEFINES IT THUS:
- Abu Bakr when requested concerning the which means of istiqamah, replied: “That you don’t affiliate companions with Allah.
- Umar ibn al-Khattab mentioned: “It’s that try to be steadfast on the issues which might be obligated , and to desert the prohibitions.”
- Uthman ibn Affan mentioned: “ To have ikhlas (sincerity) to Allah solely in doing actions .”
- Ibn Abbas mentioned: “It means to meet your duties to Allah.”
VERSES ON STEADFASTNESS
1. Nay, seek
((Allah)'s) help with patient perseverance and prayer: It is indeed hard,
except to those who bring a lowly spirit,-(Surah Al-Baqara, 45)
2. ye who
believe! seek help with patient perseverance and prayer; for Allah is with
those who patiently persevere. (Surah Al-Baqara, 153)
3. Be sure
we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or
lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who
patiently persevere, (Surah Al-Baqara, 155)
4. When they
advanced to meet Goliath and his forces, they prayed: "Our Lord! Pour out
constancy on us and make our steps firm: Help us against those that reject
faith." (Surah Al-Baqara, 250)
5. ye who
believe! Persevere in patience and constancy; vie in such perseverance;
strengthen each other; and fear Allah.that ye may prosper (Surah Al-Imran,
200)
6. "But
thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of
our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy,
and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! (Surah Al-Araf,
126)
7. For the
present, Allah hath lightened your (task), for He knoweth that there is a weak
spot in you: But (even so), if there are a hundred of you, patient and
persevering, they will vanquish two hundred, and if a thousand, they will
vanquish two thousand, with the leave of Allah.for Allah is with those who
patiently persevere. (Surah Al-Anfal, 66)
8. They stained
his shirt with false blood.He said: "Nay, but your minds have made up a
tale (that may pass) with you, (for me) patience is most fitting: Against that
which ye assert, it is Allah (alone) Whose help can be sought".. (Surah
Yusuf, 18)
9. Jacob
said: "Nay, but ye have yourselves contrived a story (good enough) for
you.So patience is most fitting (for me) (Surah Yusuf, 83)
10. Therefore
be patient with what they say, and celebrate (constantly) the praises of thy
Lord, before the rising of the sun, and before its setting; yea, celebrate them
for part of the hours of the night, and at the sides of the day: that thou
mayest have (spiritual) joy. (Surah Ta Ha, 130)
